I'm not sure about any of the technology in the key fob except that it is
some sort battery-powered RFID device. A challenge/response system would
be a good idea to prevent the copying of keys.
However, my concern is a bad different. Can people be tracked by a unique
number in their car key fobs? Key fobs are interesting because they can
be read at a distance.
BTW, a 14443 device has a unique ID number that can be read by any reader
even though data in a device is pretty well protected. 14443 technology
is used in credit cards, passports, and transit cards.
