My job isn't to make sure the people I work with understand security.
My job is to provide them with as much security as I can muster
without impeding their ability to do their work, all the while not
creating too much extra work for either of us.

Need data on your laptop? Fine, its encrypted. Big deal. What is the
role of IT in an organization you describe anyway - are they just a
fix-it and forget it shop or do they work pro-actively in pursuit of
their employer's goals and regulatory requirements? I hate firehouse
companies and that's exactly what you describe.
