I sympathize with your position, I held it once.  Since then I have seen an
awful lot of things and gotten to know an awful lot of people, and found that
the position you are taking is itself a form of bigotry.  Assuming that those
who hold a view that is different from yours are somehow lesser intellectually,
ethically or emotionally is a dead-end.

In my early twenties I moved to South Carolina all full of righteous
expectations of meeting white rednecks who hate black people - instead I mostly
met white redneck people who were the salt of the earth and held no animosity
towards anyone.  I even found out that a really nice guy at work was a Klansman
and had a long talk with him about it, and to my disappointment he failed to
sprout horns and while I did not find myself agreeing with his rationale,
neither did I find him to be unusually stupid or hateful - just wrong.

Perhaps, and I hope so.  However, distateful and wrong are not necessarily
synonymous in all case.  Only rational contemplation and debate can approach an
honest truth.
