Fuzzing is generally attributed to Barton Miller at the Univesity of
Wisconsin, circa 1989.

Last week I delivered an introductory session on Fuzz
Testing<http://www.cafeaulait.org/slides/sdbestpractices2007/fuzz/>at
Software Development Best Practices in Boston in which I mentioned
this
fact:

One of the attendees pointed out that Steve Capps' The
Monkey<http://www.folklore.org/StoryView.py?project=Macintosh&story=Monkey_Lives.txt&topic=Technical&sortOrder=Sort%20by%20Date>predates
the Wisconsin work that is normally considered the first fuzzer:

What do people think? Does the Monkey qualify as a fuzzer?
